My Review of #TreySongz’s – “#TRIGGA” and details about his next album…

Ok, so I’ve been a fan of Trey Songz for a long time. Wanna know how long? Let’s just say loooong… yeah, I know.

    But anywho.

Of course I made it a point to buy the newest album that came out July 1st. Soon as I bought it, snapped a flick of me and the album for the ‘gram (click here to see the pic), then proceeded to pop the cd into my car player to give it a listen.

The 6th installment following his “Chapter 5”, Trey Songz gives us “Trigga”. The difference between this and previous albums from the singer, well theres a ton. Let’s start with the obvious, the track listing. For this album, Songz enlisted the collaborations of various artists from Justin Bieber to Juicy J, and Nicki Minaj and more. As someone who is a fan of Trey, I’ve never seen more than one or 2 features on an album. I wonder what made him pursue making this album so feature heavy. I have a few speculations such as marketing strategies to get him to a higher visible level of mainstream notoriety, but I think that’s something for another blog post…

If you follow the previous albums of Songz, you would notice that he attempts to give you some type of vision of the love life, or lack thereof, dealings that he has experienced during the creation of an album. Everyone mentions that all he talks about is sex, how he invented it and whatnot. But what he mentions on this album is the effect that fame has on his dealings with women. From women that he links up with for a night or 2 when he’s in their city, or women that he may have began some type of minor commitment to and he details the extent of those relationships. One might say that if you go by the songs that he puts out, he’s not looking to settle down and there’s isnt a key woman in his life just yet.

As for the sound of “TRIGGA,” Fans of R&B music have been longing for ‘real’ R&B to make a comeback. There s more of a hip hop influence on the genre and less melody/harmony going on as of late. With “Trigga”, Songz attempts to give a balance of the classic style of music that he started out with when he released “I Gotta Make it” and “Trey Day” with today’s more common blend of Hip Hop/R&B. While I will ALWAYS love Trey, I would have been happier with more of his classic R&B style than a ton of collaborations. I understand that he’s attempting to reach a broader audience with these features but I need all that “jazz” on a mixtape and not so much on an album…

Also, I wanted to note that Trey says this is his best album yet.

For me, I love this album, but nothing he’s put out after 2009 is topping “Ready”… so far. There’s been a bunch of singular hits on albums since then, but not a quite a solid “play all the way through album” as ‘Ready.” So, until the next release, I’m looking forward to what he has to come.

With that here are a few of tracks that really stood out for me  as favs.

    • Cake
    • Foreign
    • Nana (of course)
    • Smartphones
    • Y.A.S.
    • Mr. Steal Your Girl

and every bonus track on the deluxe album

    • Hard to Walk Away
    • Serial
    • Sneaky

A little birdie told me that the bonus tracks are a sample of the next album to follow “TRIGGA”

Elite debuts their WAVY FLEXIN COOL mixtape…and I was there 🙂 | What I’m Listening To

Alean-Elston-Elite-Meet-Greet-Step-RepeatWant me to come to your event and blog about it? Let me know! – alean@aleanelston.com

First off, Its been a few since I’ve been able to blog on the site and I guess that’s a good thing. More gigs, more movement, more great content for the site, right?! Right 😉

Oh yeah, before I forget, shout out to the members of Elite, Love Logan Productions, Digiwaxx, and Young Jack Thriller for taking care of me at this event. I so appreciated it!

But last week I was going through my email and I came across an email blast for Elite, a new up and coming hip hop group, I didn’t know anything about these guys but I loved the cover of their mixtape “Wavy Flexin Cool”. Who’s album cover does it remind you of? (pictured above) Don’t worry I’ll wait… If you don’t know, you’re probably not old enough to know.

    ANYWAY

I checked out their 2 videos on YouTube and I liked it and its some quality stuff, looks like it can go the distance. Especially since they are being lead by Kay Gee of Naughty By Nature, success breeds success, know what I mean?! As I was writing this post, I lucked out and found a new video. Go on over to their YouTube channel and check it out, AFTER you finish reading this post of course 😀 At the time that I got their email, I wasn’t going to go because I wasn’t already going to be in NYC. My thing is, I rarely travel and/or go to events unless there is money to be made, connections I really want or need, or to support friends and family. So when I got booked to do a filming for that day in the city and it was in the same area as the meet and greet/release,  I decided  that there was no reason why I shouldn’t be at this event, and I quickly made my way to RSVP for the event.

Turns out I made a great decision. When I arrived at LQ, it was packed in there. It was a real cool vibe just a lot of people who turned out for this event. To me that speaks VOLUMES! I can’t tell you how many mixtape releases, launches, etc parties that I have gone to and no one shows up but their momma and 3 cousins. The fact that is was packed says to me that this group has a strong following and is definitely a group to keep an eye on.

After I hung around for a lil bit I got to meet the group. When I tell you they are so nice… They are so nice! lol They were very energetic and excited about the success of their event.  Of which they should be. I didn’t get to hear too much from the mixtape at the party (maybe thats cause I arrived late lol) but from what I’ve heard, its definitely cool. I recently downloaded the mixtape, WAVY FLEXIN COOL, and it wasn’t what I expected in a good way. These guys have something here…something that no one mainstream right now has. I can’t put my finger on it but when I can define it I’ll let you know. I feel like as I watch development of this group in the near future, it’ll become more apparent to me.

Download their mixtape and let me know what you think – Download it here

“Shake It” Busta Rhymes ft. Trey Songz & Future | What I’m Listening To #music #hiphop

I wanted to start something new on my blog. I come across so much music through Prime Sound, both from indies, unsigned, and signed artists that I want to share it all. I couldn’t figure out how to do that until recently so here it is, my new segment on my blog -“What I’m Listening To”

    Let me say this:

I am open to receiving music for consideration to be a part of this feature but please don’t add me to any wack mailing list full of WACKNESS delivered to my inbox on a regular! Your b-hind will get blacklisted from my inbox if you do!

On that note please feel free to tweet me music – @CompleteBeauty or email it to me – info@aleanelston.com. I’ll only be responding to music I like, so please don’t ask me if I like your music. If I like it, it will show up on my site.

Thanks!! NOW… On to the MUSIC!!!

Shake It… I first heard this when I was in North Jersey last week. (I love NYC Radio) and I was like, Busa Buss?! Is that You?! Where you been at?! lol

I loved the beat, loved the hook, (I have a weakness for ratchetness in music, lol) the sampling, and the features, but Buss… I wasn’t too crazy about his part. Trey and Future Killed it but Busta Rhymes gave me a ‘meh’ feeling.

Take a listen to the song, and let me know what you think. Leave a comment below or tweet me with your thoughts!

[VIDEO] And the award for DOPE MUSIC VIDEO CONCEPT goes to…

    TRUE2LIFE Music

Their music has been hitting my inbox for sometime now, and I have to be honest, a lot of the music (not theirs) that comes to me is beyond WACK and is not something that I feel like sharing with you all as something that I think you would be interested in. So most of the time, I end up deleting those emails after I see what they are about…(sad but true lol). But today I decided to open this email, browse through the details and I clicked on the video link to see what they had in store and…I LOVED THIS VIDEO! Homegirl dancing wore me out just watching her! I know they shot this all over New York, and I can only imagine how tired she was after this was all said and done. Between the traveling and the dancing, personally, I would have been SUPER beat! But she stayed with it, never went off point, and for that, I give her Kudos and to TRUE2Life Music and your director, I give you 2 thumbs up! Great Vid guys!!

I think I just found a new song for me to work out to now! Now I just have to start working out…lol

Check it out and let me know what you think.

PS. I want those leggings she got on, anyone know where I can get ’em?!

“Every Dream Has A Price” coming soon.

  • Trey Songz talks “Chapter 5” and upcoming role as “Ryan” in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

No your eyes are not playing tricks on you, you are reading this correctly. Trey Songz will be in the 3D remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. As if the singer, rapper, crooner, model, spokesman, and ladies man didn’t have enough to add to his list of titles actor is another that the R&B star is proud to add to his growing business empire.

Those of you that know me personally know what a Trey Songz fan I am, but to be honest I can’t help but to think that this role if gonna be straight comedy for me when I see this in the theaters! Why you might ask? Well, first off the movie is in 3D, i’m expecting a lot of bloodyness and gore being tossed at the camera… Second Trey has one of the LEAD ROLES and his name is RYAN (like why Ryan out of all of the names, It so does not fit him lol)… I know we have seen him on a few walk-on roles on the small screen but #cmonson are his skills that up there to be in a lead role?! I guess we’ll see next year…and third, its a horror movie, and because its Trey in the movie… I don’t think I’m gonna be too scared, and his facial expressions in the movie are gonna be priceless! LMAO… me and my girls couldn’t take his facial expressions serious in the “Yo Side of the Bed” video when he found out Keri wasn’t coming home… watch the video for yourself and you’ll see what I mean!!! – http://youtu.be/xPd4Qp-Pdew I love him best when he flashes that winning smile!! Lets keep that for a while 😀 Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is scheduled for release October 5, 2012.

Sidebar: I wonder if he’ll die first in the movie…. (you all know the black people in horror movie facts, lol, don’t act like you weren’t thinking it!!!)

But on another note, Mr. Songz has announced the release of his upcoming album which will be released around the same time as the movie, Chapter 5. I’m so curious as to where he is gonna take us with this album. From “Just Gotta Make It” to “Passion Pain Pleasure” you can see how he as grown musically and how many times he has switched up his musical style, but reinventing his brand each time. From my observation of Trey from beginning until now he’s come to understand his business. From the music, to the endorsements, to the deals and collabos with companies and other top brands, I think he realized that there is very little money in music nowadays and in order to keep it going financially and musically, you have to pair your music with other aspects of business and in turn both will grow…

    Just my opinion tho…

Check out what he had to say for himself about it all as he talks with Black Enterprise Magazine:
