    “I don’t fit the casting description, should I still go?” – #ModelTipTuesday #ModelAdvice

Another #ModelTipTuesday post for ya! These posts will be dedicated to your questions about modeling. If there are any questions you have, send them to me via any of my social media sites, or email me your questions. I will either respond to them directly or respond to you and post the question as a blog post for others to learn from. So, Here I go!

I recently had a comment on one of my posts asking this very question. The reader basically said that there was an audition that she was going to go to but she didn’t fit the height requirement for one of the characters that she was auditioning for. She wondered if she should go…

    My advice?

I don’t think she should go or at least audition for an other role where she fits the description.

The casting directors put out the requirements for the roles or the booking a certain way for a reason. It could be that the clothes for the shoot or show are a certain size or the height of the model has to be a certain height in order to fit into a particular set setup with a model or actor of a complementary height.

There aren’t too many chances that you not fitting the requirements are going to change the director or the agent’s mind in regards to you winning the role just because you showed up and auditioned for it, simply because its not what the role calls for.

    And that’s my 2 cents!

    Hi I'm Alean

If you haven’t figured it out by the domain name of the site, my name is

    Alean Elston

    (AL-leen ELS-ten)

and welcome to my digital space!

I’ve been modeling for 12 years now (and still getting stronger) and as I’ve gone about in my career I’ve come across some awesome people and learned a lot about business and a ton about myself. What I’ve realized is that I learned the most when I shared with others and when they shared with me. It enabled me to grow and I hope that I’ve enabled others to grow as well. With that being said, my goal is to connect with the aspiring models, the professional models, the drinks and business enthusiast, and the beverage and modeling/entertainment industry folks who want to follow along with me in our journey with my blog. I believe that if you are one of those people, then we have a few things in common.

I love modeling, modeling led me to start my own business, starting my own business enabled me to work with various beverage brands and sparked the passion of me working within the beverage industry. All of these things are very connected in my life and if you have a passion for any one of those things, there is where we share our connection. I’ve been in your shoes as the inexperienced model, looking to find out how to get started and how to start booking shoots, shows, and getting paid. I’ve been the business owner that struggled (sometimes I still struggle) to get the first client and develop the momentum to continue to build a customer base. I am the person passionate about cocktails and wine and beers and wanted to learn all I can about the business of it, I’m also the blogger that lives life just like you but my goal is to share my experiences and ideas and to connect with those who share the same sentiment, and build and grow.
The one thing that I hope that you take away from my blog is that you can have multiple goals but they mean nothing if you don’t pursue them. All it takes is a few baby steps towards your goals for them to gain traction and watch it grow faster than the speed of light. I’ve watched it happen to a number of my peers, and now it’s my turn.

    Watch me work.

5 “Business Models” who are great at minding their business

They say it takes several streams of income in order to be wealthy. Which got me thinking about other models who have done more than modeling to create more revenue streams. I like to think of it as Business Models Minding their Business. (cute right?! :-D)

As a model, you should always conduct yourself as a business and these models have done that plus created seprate businesses that have generated more for them in addition to their modeling. Click  the next page to check out my short list.

It’s a lot simpler than you think. If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen that I work a lot of events as a model for various beverage brands, in addition to the work that I do with my company (Pour Models) as a special events bartender and model. I make a good portion of my income as a promo model for various brands and I am always asked how others can get started doing this type of work. I know if looks fun and it is, fun that I get paid for having and I get paid to travel to do.

  • #Goals…Let’s just say I’m setting some more…

    #Goals…Let’s just say I’m setting some more…

Welp, summer is over according to the calendar. Labor Day marks the unofficial end of fun in the sun. For me, today marks the start of a fresh new month. What I usually do at the start of a month is plan out my bookings and figure out how to fill it a bit more or if its packed, how I’m going to survive such busi-ness! Lol I also take the time to review goals that I have set for myself in the past and think about new ones or keep the old ones and try my best to achieve them all. Some of my past goals have included:

If you have been following my blogging habits (or lack thereof), that first goal that I mentioned was a failure lol but it only failed because I became busy with more client and model bookings. Even though it was a failure other goals were a great success and there’s more time for me this month for me to modify that goal, among others, and of course set new ones to achieve.

With that being said, I wanted to take a different approach to my goals. I’m a firm believer in “The Secret” and I noticed that a few people that I follow on social media following the law of attraction and I’ve been watching their goals come to pass. The way I see it, if they can bravely put their goals out there and I can watch it unfold, I should have no problem doing the same. So here I go, my goals for September 2014:

    1. Acquire a booking or contract that builds upon my strategy for financial and career growth
    2. Do 3 photoshoots with various phenomenal photographers and clients
    3. Consistently blog EVERYDAY
    4. Vlog at least 2 times a month
    5. Continue to develop my ‘jumping’ skills
    6. Reach and maintain a new account threshold

So now that it’s out there, I’m going to work on making it all come my way!

Be sure to follow me on social media to watch it all unfold!

  • Want Success? “You gotta Jump off that cliff…” according to #SteveHarvey [VIDEO]

Want Success? “You gotta Jump off that cliff…” according to #SteveHarvey [VIDEO]

Sometimes it can be a bit hard to make it in business, but Steve has a point when he tells you you have to jump…

It can be a bit scary and I experience this everyday. Sometimes I don’t jump and I remain safe, but then I realize I’m missing out on soaring. So with that I’m learning to take more jumps…I’ll tell you how that all works out for me.

What are some of the things that you need to jump for?

  • The cost of doing business rises, should customers pay for it?

The cost of doing business rises, should customers pay for it?

Today so far has been a very interesting day.

Its the last week of the month, of which I am usually preparing to pay bills and organize my budgets for the following month, and after looking at a few receipts and invoices I noticed, things just keep going up and up and up!

I personally hate the fact that things keep going up, like my car insurance…smh Not only did I not have any incidents or claims, but my insurance increased! When I asked why despite having no issues or claims, they said it costs more to repair cars nowadays.

    Really…

So because, I never filed a claim and everyone else drives like idiots, and messes up cars and property, I’m paying for it… its not fair. (currently searching for new car insurance by the way.)

Anywho, the point of my blog post is this, everything in the world is increasing for me to handle business but I don’t want to have to pass my expensive costs on to my clients/customers.

Currently seeking ways to keep business moving without reasonably raising costs for customers.

How do you cope when your expenses get higher every year?

(The video, fyi, just illustrates general costs of being in business, whether you are a photographer or not. Plug in what applies to you)

Model or Actor with Tattoos? Find out how Rapper/Actor Ludacris feels about them.

    Video credit – Instagram

We been seeing rapper/actor Ludacris throughout the years in various films and if you follow him on instagram, you got a quick behind the scenes look at the prep that takes place before filming the upcomig Fast & Furious 7. (I know, I know…when the hell did they get to 7?! You don’t even remember 3-6 coming out!)

Most rappers that we know of have tons of tatts, “bodies marked up like the subway in harlem,” to quote Weezy. In the above clip, Ludacris talks about one of the reasons why he only has so few tattoos. Hint, it has to do with work and time, and if you didn’t know…TIME IS MONEY. Especially when it comes to the process of covering up tattoos. Its just more money that comes out of the client’s pocket to pay the makeup artist or retoucher to get the look that they believe is perfect for the project. If there’s too much time that it takes to cover up ink…(ie you have a ton of tatts) you might lessen your chances of being booked! Thus, no money.

    Get my drift?

I’ve mentioned before in a previous post (click here to read it) that tattoos can work against you in the modeling industry and that you should cover them up when attending any casting or when you have booked a job. Your special body art may not work with the look or character that is being portrayed and thus, you should cover up your ink, or if you don’t have any, like me, don’t bother getting any. You’ll save yourself a lot of hassle with potential clients by not having any ink.

Any actors or models out there ever been told about their tattoos at a casting or booking? I’d love to hear your story, comment this post or contact me via Twitter or Instagram – @CompleteBeauty
